Statement
topostcards (a topo-dialogue, 2010-2011, Alex Nelu / Serioja Bocsok)
Topostcards exists as a series of 140 photos taken during trips in our home counties. Half of them were taken in Arges, the other half in Vrancea. These images were made available online during more than a year on a simple-themed “tumblr” blog. Our main intention was to trace random similarities or differences between two regions of Romania by exposing images one by one, like an open visual dialogue. The idea of a dialogue sometimes led to short challenges between us, posting images as answers or related to the previously uploaded or trying to change the course by referencing to new topics, therefore breaking the string.
Etimologically, “topostcards” is “topos” (the greek word for “space”), showing our tendency towards landscape in photography, and “postcard”, referring to the documentary side of our archive.
